This website aims to promote the exchange of good practices and the emergence of joint projects between Mediterranean cities around the theme of sustainable development using multimedia supports. The theme of water and sanitation has been chosen as the first axis of development. Other topics such as management of solid waste, air quality, etc. could be integrated later.

A survey has been desiigned to define priorties for capacity building and best practices exchanges. Thus some case studies were brought online. Cities and their partners are invited to submit their best practices for wide dissemination in the Mediterranean area.

This website was launched, thanks to the support of the Nice-Côte d'Azur Metropole, as part of a project led by the International Office for Water (OIEau / IOWater) and EMWIS (Euro-Mediterranean Information System on the know-how in the Water sector) which aims to provide support to local authorities in capacity building and to improve project management for major investment equipment to be set up in the perspective of Mediterranean sustainable cities.

This project aims to be integrated into the activities of the Euromed Cities Network, in the framework of actions supported by the General Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, in complementarity with other existing Mediterranean initiatives and the possible future actions linked to the commitments taken to fight against climate change in the context of COP21 in Paris and COP22 in Marrakech, 7-18 November 2016

The Euromed Cities Network is a forum for exchange both on technical and political issues. It involves politicians, operators, utilities and public services operators. It aims to initiating dialogue and cooperation between cities from North and South of the Mediterranean. The City of Nice assumed the presidency of the network since November 2008, and set up a permanent secretariat in Nice. One of its goals is to support the development Sustainable cities in the Mediterranean

The International Office for Water (OIEau/ IOWater) has a long experience in training managers and technicians from local authorities and water supply, sanitation and waste utilities in France and abroad. EMWIS is a key player in the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the water sector; it broadcasts a newsletter to more than 20,000 players in the domain of water.

This initiative "Mediterranean Sustainable Cities" aims to strengthen the competences of local authorities for better project management, promote the exchange of experiences and dissemination of best practices, enhance the links forged with members of the Euromed Network to set up project proposals on developing concrete pilot actions on the field.
